We know such performative forms of art as happening, performance itself, and Environment Art – these are actions where the viewer can communicate with the artist himself, a group of artists and get their own experience as a spectator through it all. In the field of media art, the idea is somewhat different: the viewer becomes a part of a work of art. The object is often

Technology & Immersiveness (disguise + BlackTrax + Notch)

Evgeny Stepanov (development director of Dreamlaser)

Modern AV technologies are wonderful because they compete with each other not by increasing FPS, Lumen or TFLOPS, but by how their use in life will increase the user's or viewer's immersion in “what is happening around”. What BlackTrax and Notch technologies, powered by disguise technologies, give us is immersiveness as it is. During the lecture, you will see some of the possibilities realized by this bundle of technologies.

About the speaker:Eugeny is an expert and practitioner in the world of mapping (equipment, content, tracking). You can find his articles and publications on the Internet (hashtag #realmapping ). His team has hundreds of mapping projects managed and dozens of publications and public speeches presented. The main theme is advanced technologies and trends in mapping.

About the company:Dreamlaser is one of the leading innovative companies in Russia 3D mapping and laser shows. 13 years of work and more than 3000 completed projects – from concept development, laser scanning, and virtual visualization to content production and full technical implementation, thanks to our fleet of equipment and video engineering. Eugeny is a partner of Disguise (since 2013) and an official representative of BlackTrax (since 2016); he has been working in the Notch environment since the closed beta test in 2016.

Sound of Color

Andrey Svibovitch

Sound of Light is an original lecture by audiovisual artist Andrey Svibovitch. This lecture will cover the topic of the influence of light on human consciousness, both psychological and physiological, as well as how light and color affect people through art with direct references to the Kandinsky and Scriabin theories.

The audiovisual artist Andrey Svibovitch applies the experience of various practices in art, using a synesthetic approach: a combination of graphics, light, sound, and movement in a common audiovisual structure; the aleatoric principle is periodically introduced into compositional structures, too. His works show the connection between the visible and the audible, the differences between what we feel and observe.

Cloud services for multi-user interactive installations

Andrey Rylov

Under the guidance of Andrey Rylov, participants will learn how to create installations that many people can interact with at the same time via a smartphone and a website. The following cloud technologies will be used:

  • Firebase Realtime Database for data synchronization;
  • Firebase Hosting for a website;
  • and Cloudinary for storing pictures and videos.

The workshop will last for two days. On the first day, we will discuss different approaches to managing the installation, and set up an environment for working with Firebase. On the second day, we will deal with installations.

TouchDesigner will be used for rendering but any environment that supports OSC would work.

    This is what you need to participate:
  • bring a computer with Python 3.6.6 and TouchDesigner (or a similar environment) installed;
  • basic use of Python and JavaScript;
  • basic skills of TouchDesigner (or similar environment);
  • no fear to enter commands at the command line.

At the end of the second day of the workshop, a demonstration of the works to the general public will be organized on a large diode screen.
